Leadership
June 2021 - April 2022
April 2022 - February 2023
SP Astro Subcommittee & EXCO Member
I was a subcommittee member for my first year in my polytechnic, before being promoted to an executive committee member in my second year. Alongside several other members of our team, I was a part of planning and executing club events for a strength of about 100+ people on average. These events would be pertaining to publicity for the club, member-bonding and education for the general polytechnic population. Besides that, we also have weekly duties like preparing informative yet digestable presentations on astronomical topics for the club, and setting up telescopes for our stargazing sessions.
April 2021 - Oct 2021
April 2022 - February 2023
SP Class Representative
With another class representative, we disseminated information that lecturers wished to convey to the class and helped the class keep track of assignments. Nearing deadlines, we would send reminders out to them as well regarding submissions. Lecturers sometimes would also approach us for our opinions on how best to resolve issues with the class, or also just have us solve the conflict itself too.
March 2019 - April 2020
Vice-President of Student Council
Working with a team of 6 other Executive Committee members and teachers-in-charge, we led and guided a full body of student leaders from Secondary 1-4 in multiple school-wide events, such as Teacher's Day Celebration and our Secondary 1 Orientation. The events were planned and executed from scratch by all the councillors, teaching myself and the EXCOs important soft skills like leadership, project management and communication skills.
March 2017 - April 2020
Student Councillor
Before being elected as vice-president, I was part of the student leader body that participated in the general execution and planning of certain events I was involved in. During this time, I got to put into practice the skills I was imparted with from the past EXCOs and experience what it was like being part of a goal-oriented but tightly-bonded and warm family.
February 2017 - January 2018
Class Welfare Head
When I had gotten the invitation to be a student councillor, I was also simultaneously appointed class welfare head of my class then. My roles were initially just to do updates for the noticeboard and escort sick students to the general office, but I ended up volunteering to help with most class projects like a decoration competition we had during CNY and our community service programme called Values-in-Action. This actually gave me great insight into my weaknesses in leadership and communication and allowed me to work on them better subsequently.
February 2017 - January 2018
Lower Secondary Level Head of Robotics CCA
Other than being a class welfare head and a student councillor, I was selected to be the lower secondary level head of my first CCA then, before I had switched to a Volleyball CCA out of a change in interest in Secondary 3. This position's responsibilities included assisting with attendance taking, the execution of training sessions and dissemination of information to the rest of the club members. However, I felt that I did not fulfil my role to the best of my ability due to my past personal issues with self-confidence, but I definitely learnt a lot about not having to please everyone as a leader and the importance of firmly standing my ground, which carried forward and aided in helping me improve in future opportunities that arose.
